Alternatives to using your ISPs DNS servers

Recently Google announced the availability of their DNS servers for public use. There are a few reasons that changing the DNS servers from the ones provided by your ISP could be beneficial. Namely speed, security, and control. Google are promoting their service through the idea that it will be faster than your ISP, other services such as the one provided by Comodo focus a little more on the idea that using theirs will be more secure. Of course this is all relative depending on how good your ISPs are, so below I have listed a few to try:

Google Public DNS:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

Comodo Secure DNS:
156.154.70.22
156.154.71.22

DNS Advantage:
156.154.70.1
156.154.71.1

There is also a service called OpenDNS which requires registration. This however does give it an advantage, as you are then able to log in to your account and make changes to its configuration as well as view logs.

Wallpaper for Samael - Above

This morning I received the most recent Samael album through the post. As I couldn't find any wallpapers online that I liked I decided to spend a few minutes throwing one together using the front cover of the album and mixing it with the background of the bands myspace page.

Start of my final year at Leeds Met

I've just started back today and already I have course work that needs to be submitted in two weeks time. I'm based in a different campus now and out of the people that started there are now only a final few remaining. My main module is Advanced Software Development which I am really looking forward to.

Alternative Web Browsers

Being into web development, I'm often switching between different browsers to ensure that my websites display correctly. I've always made sure to test using the big names; Firefox, IE, Opera, Safari, and Chrome. Today however I stumbled upon two other browsers that seem to be a variation of Microsoft's IE. They are: 'Maxthon' and 'The World Browser'.

I considered myself to be fairly knowledgeable about the various browsers that exist so was rather surprised to find that I was not aware of these two. This motivated me to go on to find out about other alternative browsers so I spent a little time today reading up on some of the others that are out there.

Learning new skills in PhotoShop - Batch Processing

Today I found a great feature within PhotoShop that will help with a web site that I'm working on. With the help of a tutorial I found online I have created a macro in Photoshop to duplicate and resize all pictures contained within a folder for use as thumbnails. This is really useful when you want to resize a ton of images for use on a web page.

Playing with Terragen v0.9

I've been using my latest pc to render a video file within Terragen v0.9. It's 800 frames long, 30 frames per second, at a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. I started the render process at about 00:36 this morning and so far have got about seven seconds worth of video. With any luck it'll be completed during the weekend.
