Getting an early start with PHP

Up til now I've learned about client-side web development. I've got a fairly good grasp of HTML, CSS, and a little Javascript but I've not done any server-side work.

One of the modules I'm doing at Uni this year is server-side development using PHP and MySQL. I've been eager to do this module so I decided to get a head start by spending some time over the summer break learning some from home.

I installed WAMP (Apache Server, MySQL, & PHP) and purchased a the Visual Quickstart Guide PHP 6 And MySQL 5 by Larry Ullman.

So far it's been a pretty good experience. It's easy to get up and running with PHP and I was able to get some way toward a fairly functional website within a couple of days. There's tons of examples online as well.

Playing with 3dsMax 9 - The Alien

For some reason I felt an urge to do some 3d modelling in 3dsMax today. So I set about creating a simple alien character using primitive shapes. I have not used 3ds Max for some time now so it was interesting to see how much I had remembered. I'm certainly not graphic designer but I do enjoy putting a model together.

Terragen - Far better than previous attempts

I spent some time with Terragen again and have made a landscape that is probably my best so far. I also used CamPath (Camera Path Editor) to create a video file about 30 seconds long which took over a week to render.

See the video here.
